I’m Playing Favorites
Right now, I’m sitting in my bed with the lights off and a heat-pack on my sciatic nerve that has been hurting like crazy, and I am completely mentally drained. I’m beginning to write this post a few days before you will all read it. By the time you do, my semester will be completely over, and I might be the happiest person in the world. I spent nearly eight hours today studying for the finance exam I have tomorrow. I did take a break to exercise a bit and eat dinner, but, still, I feel like almost eight hours straight of the same subject isn’t healthy! Luckily, this is my last exam of the entire semester. Once it’s done, it’ll completely be the holiday season for me!
The holiday season is already going by so fast. I feel like I need a LOT more time to shop for gifts, wrap presents, make Christmas cookies, and just have a holly-jolly holiday. It’s all coming waaay too fast, and I just want some time to enjoy it! Another thing that will be gone before we know it is 2017! It’s crazy to think we’re almost in the new year.
This week is a crazy one and I think I could use some grounding, so I’m deciding to look back. It’s a good idea for everyone to look back on the work they’ve done and to appreciate the end result. I want to point out a few of my favorite posts from 2017. Some of them remind me of a certain time in my life. Others, I thought I did a good job writing or had fun with the topic. Hopefully, if you haven’t already, you’ll take some time to read my favorites!
Here are my favorite posts that I wrote in 2017:
6. How Much Does My Face Cost: Going Out Makeup
This was a really interesting topic for me to write about. I think I found the idea from a Google search of “interesting blog post topics.” It was really cool to specifically break down every makeup item I use for a certain look and to total it up. While the total number sounded expensive, I remember that I wasn’t too surprised by it. I was actually thinking (possibly hoping) that it would be more. I do remember kind of feeling defensive/protective over the price of each individual item. Phrases like “in my foundation’s defense”popped into my mind as I thought of what my readers would think about me dropping $40 on one bottle of foundation. (In my foundation’s defense, it does last me like two to three months.) I definitely want to write a post like this again. Maybe for something like grocery store items or my favorite clothing pieces.
5. Real Talk: Your Relationship With Your Parents As A Young Adult
I really enjoyed writing this real talk. Ever since my sister went away to college, I started spending more one-on-one time with my parents. I think doing that helped them see me as more of an adult, and our relationship was able to mature. A lot of people my age take their parents for granted (I’ll admit, I have my moments too). By writing this real talk, I was hoping to help those people realize that there might be more to their parents than meets the eye. It felt really good being able to strengthen my relationship with my parents, and I was hoping that other people would be able to do the same after reading this post.
4. Eating at Vegan Restaurants
If you have ever looked at my Instagram before, it’s no secret that I love food and taking pictures of it. This summer, I started eating at vegan restaurants and it was a life-changing experience. I just had to write about it! I don’t have too many restaurant posts, but it’s something I would like to continue to do. I like being able to give others recommendations of where to eat and being able to expose the business to more publicity (and hopefully more customers). Just reading this post again makes me really want to go back to these restaurants. Now, I’m getting hungry!
3. Internship Advice
The part-time job I have right now started out as an internship for me. I can also see myself growing in the company after I graduate college. I like writing posts like “Internship Advice” because I get to share the secrets to my success. I love being able to help other young adults get their foot in the door to their dream careers. I really am happy where I am right now on my career path, and I want others to be able to feel this way too. It really gets me excited to talk about how I got to where I am right now. I love giving this kind of advice!
2. Real Talk: Saying “I Love You”
Most of the time I pick topics to write about based on what’s going on in my life. During the time of my life when I wrote “Real Talk: ‘Saying I Love You,’” I was trying to figure out if I was ready to tell Adam that I love him. Writing this post helped me realize that I often overthink whether or not I love someone to the point of completely confusing myself. I also learned that I should simply just let go and give into my feelings. The goal of my Real Talks is not only to give my readers insight on a topic but for me to also understand what’s going on in my own life a little bit more by writing it. This post definitely helped me realize some of the patterns and flaws I tend to have when falling in love with someone. It helped me realize that I was ready to say “I love you” to Adam long before I even thought of saying it.
1. Real Talk: My Vegetarianism
“Real Talk: My Vegetarianism” is my favorite post yet. Though I remember not wanting to get too into the ethical reasons why I chose to go veg, this topic is really near and dear to my heart. My vegetarianism isn’t just a lifestyle or an identifier. It felt good to finally share my story with you, my Dolls. People have always asked me why I became vegetarian, and I finally have a written explanation for them. Now, when someone asks me why I’m vegetarian, I simply send them the link to my blog. LOL, yeah, I really do that. Of course, I explain it in person too, but it definitely helps to have all of it written out.
Before I wrote it out, I never really realized how much of a struggle it was to finally be able to become vegetarian. I was definitely ready to do it long before I actually made the change. Some people in my life didn’t support my decision and that made it harder for me to do. After writing this post, I realized how long the process actually took me and how much it was delayed because of the hurdles I had to face. I’m really glad I am vegetarian now, and I’m glad you’ve allowed me to share my story with you.
It was really tough picking out only a few of my favorite posts. I really enjoy writing them, and I hope you enjoy reading them just as much. I think Real Talks are definitely my favorite category to write in. You will definitely be seeing more of those in 2018!
In case I don’t talk to you before then, Merry Christmas, my Dolls!
